Welcome to the Travelling Book Nerd. I’m Emily, and I’m a full-time book nerd and dreamer based in New Zealand. I studied towards a Bachelor of Nursing degree but my mental health suffered to the point where I was unable to graduate. Now I’m finding ways I can live my life with my book obsession and travel dreams.
My vision for this blog is to encourage you to explore and gain experience of the world. Hopefully, this will help to reduce ignorance about other people and make the world a friendlier place.
My inspiration? Talking to those close to me about wanting to travel South America and Central Asia. Most people seemed to have strong negative ideas about countries that they had never been to (e.g. Peru is full of drug smugglers; Brazil is much too dangerous for someone so kind; Uzbekistan is a God-forsaken country – why would you ever want to go there?).
The Travelling Book Nerd is all about challenging stereotypes and finding out what the world is really like. When I can’t visit a place (or time period) in person, I read a book set there.
